I know "it's my blog, I can write about what I want," but I am the kind of person who likes to keep things organized and this is a blog about activities I do with my kids (or give them to do).
But my blog has been seeming silly lately. Well. Okay. It always seemed silly, but now I think I should be doing more important things instead.
I've also wondered if I should be changing the focus of my blog ever so slightly (remember I love organization) to be more about life as an urban family. Just change the title? Abandon this one and start a new blog? But then, again, I come around to the ridiculousness of having a blog in the first place.
We'll see. I have some posts in the queue which I will probably still put up.
But then.
Hmmm.
I don't know.
I would be interested to hear what you have to say.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the organization. Every time I post about something that's not "Montessori," which is a lot lately, I feel like it doesn't belong.
BTW, I have not allowed myself to think about that decision. If I do, I might get depressed. Sometimes I wish I could live in a bubble.
I think you should just blog what you feel about blogging. After all, your blog has the name about what you do all day and that does include reading news, talking to adults, etc. As for the decision - gaak! I think it will definitely impact the political landscape long term.
ReplyDeleteThis is what I think. Blogs CAN be silly, but yours isn't, and they aren't by definition. Plenty of blogs--yours included--are figurative lifesavers, idea-sharers, ways to connect with and help others. I've gotten many ideas for kid activities from your blog, and to a full-time SAHM that is invaluable. That said, now that you have 2 children and your life is changing/has changed, a blog about life as an urban family would be great! Fun, interesting, and full of ideas for other urban families, I am sure. What's silly about that?
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking along similar lines lately. I don't remember where I read this, but I recently saw a post about whether to change your blog when your focus changes, and the answer was that it isn't really necessary. Your blog name isn't specific to kiddie-activities, and it's your blog, and you can write about whatever you want. There's no reason why you can't write about politics, or your whole family, or urban living. One of my favorite bloggers is Angry Chicken, and while her blog is primarily about sewing, she writes about whatever she wants, whenever she wants, and that's part of what I admire.
ReplyDeleteI understand how you feel about the decision. Between that and the health care disaster, I'm not feeling as optimistic as I once was. I would also be interested in whatever you have to say- it's your blog, so it doesn't HAVE to just be about what you do with the kids. If it makes you feel more organized to keep the kid stuff and "everything else" separate, then that's great, too. Maybe try one way and see how it goes? Either way, I'll be here. :o)
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing wrong with changing the focus of your blog a bit - all of these things affect your family; what you think and do! Just go with it and post what you want to - you'll find it more cathartic.
