Friday Do-Over: Magnets

Excellent activity for free play, but remember magnets can be unsafe for very little ones.

Here is a good distraction activity which I stole/borrowed from a number of sources including Wildwood Cottage blog and the book Do-It-Yourself Early Learning. Magnets! The first order of business was to go on an excursion to the hardware store and while I was looking for a magnet like the one this cutie played had instead I found a pair of super strength ceramic magnets and a super-fun telescoping magnet wand!

I gave Kiddo an assortment of metal hardware with which to experiment and he had a ball. The super strength magnets sure gave his fingers a workout.

He also discovered that if he put the hook on the end of the wand he could use it to "fish" for a variety of objects!
We use the inside of our front door (which is steel) in lieu of the fridge for magnets and as a chalkboard (with the help of some blackboard paint) so I can store this activity in a bag where Kiddo can easily retrieve it whenever he wants.
