papier mâché bowls (Guest Post)

Today marks the day of my first guest post! I am delighted to share a wonderful idea from irresistible ideas for play-based learning, an Australian based blog written by two pre-school teachers.   ::: papier mâché bowls

Just before the children headed off for the Christmas break we wanted to do some extra yummy cooking and thought it would be pretty nice for the children to make some special papier mâché bowls to pop the goodies in.

We hunted out some disposable bowls to use as moulds, some tissue paper, patty pans and PVA glue.

It was the children’s job to tear the tissue paper up, not too small …

and flatten out the patty pans!.

They covered their bowls with plastic wrap before glueing the paper on …

so that they could remove the bowl easily.

Then came the fun – sticking the paper all over the plastic wrap …

layer upon layer!

Such deliciously gooey fun!

We needed to leave them for a few days to make sure they were nicely dry and hard.

Then the children could remove the bowls …

trim the edges, or leave them a bit ragged, whatever they chose.

What great little bowls - irresistible indeed!

  1. Pretty nice, especially if it's done outside. I am not a big fan of messy arts in the house :)
