Birdwatching

Remember when I told you about Kiddo's love for his Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America?

Well, we have been taking a lot of walks in the park with a pair of binoculars, a field bag and guide in hand.

I must say, Kiddo has been teaching me a lot. I suggested he keep a log, and write what he saw down in his nature journal. However, he never wants to stop and do that.

Just in case your child is not quite up to the Sibley Field Guide, here are a few less ...um... intimidating books on our shelves.

I'm linking this to Afterschool and Learning Lab at Mama Smiles.

  1. I think it is so cool that he uses the Sibley guide! I hope my kids get really into a hobby like this! Especially one they can do largely on their own, and teach you at the same time!

    Thanks for linking up! =)

  2. How fun! That's great that he is so interested in bird watching! My son isn't one to write thing down either. He just wants to keep moving!

  3. Cool! I added this post to Pinterest even though daughter has been a tree person so far, not a bird person. Maybe one day :)

  4. Can you recommend binoculars? Ours seem too difficult for N. to focus effectively...

  5. @Fanny H. I wish I could. My mother found this pair in her house (mysterious objects are often to be found there) and there is no identifying information on them, so I have no idea who made them. I wonder if a outdoor sports store would be a good place to try... then they might let N. try out a few pair to see which one work for him?
